Annelie Lindström

An introduction

Annelie Lindström, hailing from the coastal town of Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, is a Nordic music icon known for her ethereal fusion of Swedish folk and experimental ambient sounds. Her haunting vocals and poetic lyrics evoke the stark beauty of her homeland, resonating with themes of solitude and resilience. After years away from the spotlight, Annelie’s lost demos were rediscovered in 2022, culminating in the release of Norrsken: De Förlorade Sångerna av Annelie Lindström, a compilation showcasing her timeless artistry. Described by producer Johanna Sundqvist as “a voice like the Northern Lights—haunting, fleeting, and unforgettable,” her music has re-emerged as a hidden gem of Nordic culture.

Annelie’s music journey is anything but ordinary. Inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden, she crafted melodies that reflect the interplay of light and shadow, blending folk traditions with cutting-edge experimental sounds. Songs like "Vinterljus" and "Skuggdans" stand out for their emotional depth and innovative textures, making her a pioneer in blending the old with the new. Although her early career faced setbacks, including the loss of much of her work in a devastating fire, Annelie’s commitment to authenticity set her apart. Her refusal to conform to industry trends preserved the raw beauty of her art, earning her a devoted following among fans and artists alike.

"Skuggdans" is more than a song—it is a moment suspended in time, where light and shadow dance together, telling stories of longing, resilience, and quiet defiance. This live recording from 1985 captures Annelie Lindström at her most vulnerable and most daring. Her whispered lyrics speak to the fragility of human connection, while the pulsing rhythm reminds us that even in darkness, there is movement, life, and possibility.

When we unearthed this track, it felt like rediscovering a lost treasure, its power undiminished by the years it lay silent. Annelie believed that music could be a form of freedom, a space where no compromises were needed, and "Skuggdans" embodies that ideal. This release is our gift to her memory and to everyone who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or caught between the light and the dark.

This version aims to preserve every breath, every imperfection, every echo of that night. It’s a window into the soul of an artist who never sought fame, only truth. Hearing this track pushed me into a passion for her music, and a desire to share it with the world.

Kärlek är allt
